Preserving the Past: Homesteading & Farming at the Huntley Irrigation Project

SKU 1V93002
When the Reclamation Act of 1902 was passed, the Huntley area near Billings, Montana, was the first to benefit. The federal government constructed an irrigation system that gave new life to agriculture in this region. When the headgates were opened in 1907, the land was also opened up to homesteaders. To help the homesteaders, a demonstration farm was started. It soon became part of Montana State University's Agricultural Experiment Station.
