HORTICULTURE IN MONTANA
Maintaining a beautiful landscape or growing a vegetable garden in Montana can be a challenge for anyone. The climate is very different from one end of the state to the other. Not only is the growing season short, but the nights are very cool, especially in the mountain valleys. The Extension Horticulture specialist is dedicated to informing the gardening public how to grow and maintain an attractive lawn and garden, as well as fruits and vegetables to try and what not to try.

If you feel your property needs shelter belts or groves of trees, the Montana State Tree Nursery can help. This program, operated by the Montana Department of Natural Resources is designed to assist landowners with the purchase of shelter belt trees and some native grasses. Your local MSU Extension Office has the details on this program or your can visit the Nursery's web site.
