USDA-APHIS Rangeland Grasshopper Program
These are the predictions from USDA-APHIS for the 2024 Rangeland Grasshopper Hazard.
This map is based on adult grasshopper counts from this fall. 15 grasshoppers per
sq. yard is the economic threshold, and as you can see the majority of Richland County
and the surrounding areas are within that range.
USDA-APHIS PPQ provides a cost-share program for rangeland grasshopper suppression.
If you are at all interested, this program is on a first-come, first-serve basis,
making it very important to have your paperwork in order.
Some requirements of the program include:
- 10,000 acre minimum contiguous blocks
- Rangeland only (20% can be cropland)
Program availability is based on funding. If you are interested, the MSU Extension - Richland County office has the applicable paperwork. Contact us for more information at 406-433-1206.
