"To increase access to a healthy lifestyle for all ages by providing a well-lit, well-marked walking path with safe crosswalks and rest areas along the route."

In September 2015, the Powder River County Extension Service was selected as one of twelve rural locations in Montana to participate in an exciting, collaborative study conducted by Montana State and Cornell University.

As part of the study, the Powder River Heart Club, the name of the local group, was encouraged to improve access to either increased physical activity or healthy eating.  The Powder River Heart Club chose to improve access to physical activity by improving and enhancing the walking and biking trail system in the community.

The group hopes to create a well-lit and safe trail system with benches for resting, and look at possibly extending the current trail to the golf course, and behind the B-Hill.
