October

October 1st is the beginning of the 4-H year. Kids must turn nine years old during the 4-H year to enroll in 4-H.

National 4-H Week - This is generally the first week in October. 4-H Club members and leaders celebrate by sharing the 4-H story with others.

Ambassador Fall Training - Two ambassadors and two prospective ambassadors attend this training at Fairmont Hot Springs along with ambassadors from across the state. They learn new skills to help them promote 4-H in their counties

November

4-H Achievement Night - 4-H members and leaders celebrate their successes and achievements over the past year during a short ceremony.

Shooting Sports Statewide Postal Shoot - Registration for this event begins in mid-November, and shooting begins the first week in December. 4-H members, either air rifle or archer, shoot at targets each week at the Broadus Shooting Range. Targets are scored and sent in by mail to the state 4-H leader.

National 4-H Congress - Teens who attend this event have either won at State 4-H Congress, or have submitted a winning state award application. The application looks at the leadership, community service, and project work over the 4-H members' last three years.

December

Santa's Secret Shop - Teen 4-H members organize the shopping event that takes place the night of Christmas Stroll. 4-Hers help younger kids shop for their family members.

Mini-Congress - Teen 4-H members organize this fun event for kids in 5th through 7th grade. Kids do not have to be in 4-H to attend. Kids parti3/31/11ay games and have a lot of fun.

April

4-H Speaks Out and Shows the Way - 4-Hers gain public speaking and organizational skills, and share their knowledge with others. All 4-Hers are encouraged to participate in one of the following: demonstration, public speaking, illustrated talks, creative works, and a non-competitive event...cowboy poetry.

State Rec Lab is an opportunity for any 4-H member who has turned 13 by October 1st of the current year. It is held in a different location each year and offers a variety of fun, educational activities the kids can learn and bring back to Powder River County.

May

May 1st is the add and/or drop deadline for 4-H projects.

June

4-H Camp at Needmore - 4-Hers from Southeastern Montana and Western North Dakota attend this camp near Ekalaka. 4-Hers in grades third through six are welcome to attend the three-day event. Rappelling, dancing, crafts, and nature walks make the days fun-filled.

OREO - 4-Hers in the 7th and 8th grade from Southeastern Montana attend this event. Some years it is a ski trip, other years it is a variety of team building and project-related activities and dancing.

July

4-H Congress - 4-Hers who are 14 years of age as of October 1st are eligible to attend this event on the Montana State University-Bozeman campus. Youth can compete in events such as public speaking, fashion revue, demonstrations, livestock judging, gavel games, and horse judging. Youth can also volunteer to help out with any of the contests.

Fair entries are due.

August

Powder River County Fair - The fair is held on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Interview judging begins on Tuesday for all non-livstock projects. Check out the fair website at http://prco.mt.gov/departments/fair.asp

September

4-H project records due. Your completed project records will be due to your club leader. These are mandatory for you to complete ythe 4-H year and receive a member recognition pin at Achievement Day. Record forms can be found by clicking here.
