By Rick Jackson

If you are under 18 and you live in Montana, you can enter the Montana 4-H photo contest, and you might win $100!

The theme of the contest is “Learn by Doing.” Entry deadline is May 1, 2008. Winners will be announced at Montana 4-H Congress.

The contest will award one $100 prize and two $50 prizes for photos that best show "learning by doing" through 4-H. Youth can enter photos of themselves, their friends and their mentors (teen leaders, parents, leaders and other 4-H volunteers) involved in 4-H. Pictures of kids and adults engaged in 4-H projects, after-school 4-H activities, 4-H camp activities, 4-H volunteer work and other examples of hands-on learning through Montana 4-H will be considered.

Photos should focus on 4-H age youth or youth/adult partnerships. They will be judged on how well they express the 4-H “Learn by Doing” theme and on overall quality. Photos that show 4-H’ers with adult or teen mentors will be given preference. With photographer and model approval, all photos will be retained for use in the 4-H Clover project selection guide and other MSU Extension 4-H publicity materials.

Adults and MSU Extension employees and their families are not eligible for prizes, but are encouraged to donate a photo to help publicize the youth development and outreach activities of Montana 4-H.

For more information or to request a paper copy of the entry forms, contact the MSU Extension office nearest you or call the Montana 4-H Center for youth development at (406)994-3501.
