Whitebark Pine in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem

Gallatin County Extension recieved generous support from American Forest to provide education and outreach covering whitebark pine ecology and mangement.

The Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem is a part of a key linkage for grizzly bears from the Yellowstone Ecosystem to the larger regions. Landowners in the Montana counties of Gallatin, Meagher, and Park were provided with pheremone packets to help protect whitebark pine from mountain pine beetle.

In an effort to help trail users know more about the ecology of the trail that lies behind the trailhead sign, we partnered with American Forest and the Forest Serice to developed a trailhead sign.
