Who can join?

Youth ages 8-18 years old by October 1st of the current 4-H year may join a regular 4-H club as a full member who can enroll in several different projects of their choosing.

Youth ages 5-7 years old by October 1st of the current 4-H year may join Cloverbuds, which is the introductory level of 4-H.  This is a non-competitive, experience-based program built on the principles of age appropriate learning activities.

Adults 19+ years old are welcomed and encouraged to become volunteers. The level and time commitment varies per individual volunteer and the opportunities to volunteer are limitless.  All volunteers must be able to pass a formal background check.

Individuals older than 18 years of age who have special needs are eligible to participate in 4-H, provided they are still enrolled in high school.

4-H membership is open to all eligible youth. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Montana State University and Montana State University Extension prohibit discrimination in all of their programs and activities on the basis of race, color, national origin, gender, religion, age, disability, political beliefs, sexual orientation, and marital and family status.

New Volunteers: It is required that you complete a background check prior to enrollment.  Please contact our office for detailed instructions.

Club Membership

Youth must enroll in at least one chartered 4-H club within the county.  Please see the list of available clubs.  New members are encouraged to try out different clubs, but should select a primary club by November 1 of the current 4-H year or within two months of enrollment (whichever comes first). See "Available Clubs" in the side menue for more details.

Project Selection

Youth must enroll in at least one 4-H project but may enroll up to as many projects as manageable per individual.  It is recommended that new members and/or younger members limit projects to 2 or 3 per year. Visit the Projects page to learn more about project requirements and project availability.

What is the cost to join?

Youth membership is a flat $10 that covers the entire year and allows youth to enter into as many projects as they wish as well as allows them to enter projects in to Montana State Fair.  Each project may have required supplies that individual members will be responsible for, however, the cost of the project book (for the first book in each level) is graciously covered by Cascade 4-H Foundation.

Adult membership for new volunteers is $36.  Every adult must be screened upon enrollment at the rate of $30.  Annual membership is $6/ year for every year after.
