Timing the application of nutrients so that they are available prior to maximum crop nutrient demand is critical. Adequate nutrients early in the growing season are necessary to maximize production and ensure that espcially nitrogen (n) and phosphorus (p) are available for good grain or seed fill. A large portion of N and P used for grain and seed fill comes from the stem, leaves, and head of the plant, rather than directly from the soil. If these nutrients are not available for early plant growth, then yield may be compromised, and efficiency of fertilizer use is reduced. Timing of maximum nutrient uptake varies among crops, and generally occus prior to maximum growth rates. The objective of this document is to present nutrient uptake curves for common Montana crops to help growers and their advisers determine the optimal timing of fertilizer applications. Color, 8 pages.

The 2008 ride to Sacrifice Cliff/Four Dances Vision Site acknowldeged the importance of health and recognized the young Crow men who gave their lives to save the tribe from smallpox.

This is the first and only text dealing exclusively and authoritatively with municipal and county government in the Big Sky state. The authors examine the architecture, politics and needed reforms of Montana's local governments within the context of the American federal system and within the constitutional framework of Montana state government.

Also included in this work is a critical analysis of the Montana political system as it enters the Twenty-First Century and a detailed description of how local politics shapes the policy decisions of county and municipal officials.

Other chapters detail local taxes and finances, typical functions of county and municipal governments and special districts, community development strategies and self-government powers. Also includes the U.S. Constitution and the Montana State Constitution.
